On July 23, 24 and 25, the Girl Scout National organization will host the Girl Scouts National Convention, bringing over 10,000 Scouts, their parents and leaders to D.C. LWVDC is sponsoring a Service Project at their convention to help foster a new generation of civic-minded leaders ready to make their voices heard.
The Girl Scout organization is a top leadership program in the U.S. The Girl Scouts of the USA and LWV have a partnership program, Promote the Vote, to provide civic engagement opportunities for Girl Scouts across the country.
Our service project will invite the Girl Scouts to create colorful post cards welcoming new naturalized citizens to our country. We will then distribute the post cards at monthly naturalization ceremonies where the LWVDC welcomes new citizens and registers them to vote. We hope to get up to 1000 post cards created and signed by the Girl Scouts.
We are seeking LWVDC volunteers to join us at the Washington Convention Center for one or more of the daily shifts on Thursday, July 23, Friday July 24 and Saturday July 25. The shifts are 10am-1pm and 1pm-4:30 each day. Duties include helping to host our service project, keeping the art tables stocked and collecting the finished cards. LWVDC will provide all the art supplies needed for this project.
